Northern Region parties declare unity of purpose
Three political parties under the Northern Region Solidarity Alliance have emphasised the importance of working together to form the next government after the September 16 2025 General Election.
The parties said this on Sunday at Baka Primary School in Karonga during a joint party rally. The parties in the alliance are National Development Party (NDP), Freedom Party (FP) and Solidarity Alliance Party (SAP).
In his speech, NDP president Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo said there was need for parties to form alliances to save the country from economic challenges.

He said: “The Northern Region Solidarity Alliance has come to stay and contribute significantly to the change of administration due to poor leadership which has contributed to the current prevailing economic woes.
“As we are speaking, soya pieces have hit a record K1 000 while sugar prices have skyrocketed.”
Taking his turn, former Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya, who also attended the rally, said the Northern
Region Solidarity Alliance is the solution to the current economic challenges because once it produces one or two Cabinet ministers, it will have bargaining powers.
Guest of honour and former vice-president Khumbo Kachali, who is also FP president, said it was pathetic that the Mzuzu-Chiweta-Karonga Road is in bad state despite being a busy road with high economic value.
“Songwe border is the only border which brings in a lot of money to account number one yet the road that connects the country’s trade partner, Tanzania, is in bad shape,” he said.
However, political and governance commentator Tionge Chile cautioned politicians to put aside their personal grievances.
“We have seen the same individuals rolling from one party to another, campaigning for and against each other without looking at addressing the public needs,” he said.
